“WE ARE ALL FAST-FOOD WORKERS NOW: The Global Uprising Against Poverty Wages”

"A NEW GLOBAL LABOR MOVEMENT IS AWAKENING." So writes historian Dr. Annelise Orleck in her most recent book, in which she tells the stories of activists in low-wage fields. From Walmart workers to farmers, from the textile factories of Bangladesh to McDonalds' around the world, workers are coming together to challenge the iniquities of a globalized economy. Dr. Orleck will speak at an evening event that will include a light dinner and discussion with local labor respondents: a UMass Lowell adjunct union leader (UAW Local 1596) and an Aramark worker (NEJB Unite Here). Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.

Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018 from 6:00 - 7:30, Office of UTL & MVCLC 169 Merrimack Street, 4th floor, Lowell, MA

This evening session is designed for community and union members. If you can't make it to the evening session, consider joining us on campus earlier in the day instead for Dr. Orleck's talk from 3:30-5, O'Leary Library Mezzanine, 61 Wilder St, Lowell).
